Local Hubs Developing Auckland’s Next Cricket Talent

Overview

Auckland Cricket has launched a new Regional Development Programme for the 2025/26 season, designed to broaden access to high-quality coaching and development opportunities for young cricketers across the city.

The programme introduces a regional Talent Hub system—10 hubs in total—providing a more accessible, localised pathway to representative and national-level cricket.


Talent Hub Structure

Male Hubs

  • U19 & U17: South, East, Central, West, and two North regions

  • U15: Launching 2026/27 season

Female Hubs

  • U19 & U16: Southeast, Central, West, and North

  • U14: Launching 2026/27 season


Programme Timeline


Key Dates

  • Nominations Open: July 1

  • Nominations Close: July 11

  • Selections Confirmed: Week of July 28


Hub Training Dates

  • U19 Boys: Aug 10 – Oct 5

  • U17 Boys: Aug 24 – Oct 12

  • U19 & U16 Girls: Aug 31 – Oct 19

🔗 Note: Age eligibility is based on 1 September cut-off (per national criteria).


Development Areas


Each Regional Hub provides holistic support for aspiring cricketers, including:

  •  Cricket Skills Training

  •  Strength & Conditioning

  •  Nutrition Education

  •  Mental Skills Introduction

  •  Throwing Technique Support

Programmes will be delivered in partnership with local coaches and administrators to ensure regionally tailored development.


Regional Tournaments & Pathway


ACA will also be establishing new Regional Tournaments, which will replace District tournaments and act as the key selection platform for Auckland's national tournament teams. A separate nominations process and ACA led trials will be held prior to those tournaments.

Tournament Dates

  • U19 Boys: Oct 27 – Nov 2

  • U17 Boys: Dec 8 – 12

  • U19 & U17 Girls: Dec 15 – 19

National Team Trials

  • U19 Boys: Nov 3 – 10

  • U17 Boys: Dec 14 – 21

  • U19 & U17 Girls: Dec 22 – 23

⚠️ Participation in Regional Tournaments and trials is required for national team selection.


Access & Affordability


The programme includes a user-pays component, but ACA remains committed to keeping costs manageable and ensuring affordability for families across the region.

This new structure reflects ACA’s goal to create inclusive, localised access to quality coaching, while maintaining a strong performance focus.
