Out at Ken Maunder Park, we witnessed an all-time thriller as Parnell raced to the Hedley Howarth title just in the nick of time. Having earlier heard the news that Takapuna had completed an outright win against Grafton, Parnell knew they had to get a hustle on to get enough points to trump them at number one on the table. Resuming at 167/4, Parnell’s star batter Aniket Parikh muscled his way to another century as the team racked up a lead of 71 before declaring.
Suburbs New Lynn weren’t able to resist the might of Parnell’s bowling attack as ACES spinner Nikith Perera demonstrated his famous guile. His 5 wicket bag ripped out the Suburbs lower order and along with Yatin Ramesh combined to end the home side’s innings with a target of 102 set.
With the rain closing in, this was no easy feat. Thankfully for Parnell, their batters were up to the task and despite losing a flurry of wickets, they reached the target in the 19th over. Your Hedley Howarth champions for 2024/25: Parnell Premier Men!
