In what is turning out to be a great news week for Auckland University Cricket Club, their very own pace bowler Angus Olliver has been added to the ACES contract list for the season ahead.
His ascension comes after the retirement of George Worker, who earlier this month announced his exit from the game after starting a career with Forsyth Barr.
Olliver, 21, made his debut in First Class and List A cricket in 2023/24, taking 8 wickets in 6 matches for the ACES.
He sees his addition as a good reward for years of toil behind the scenes, saying “I’m extremely grateful to be given this opportunity as I’ve been working tirelessly for a couple of years now towards my first contract.
“Being a part of such a special group makes going through all the tough times worth it.
“I can’t wait to bring as much energy as possible to the group and pushing myself to my limits out there for the fellas.”
Auckland Cricket’s Interim Head of Performance & Talent, Jonny Bassett-Graham says Olliver’s hard work ethic is a central part of his contract offer.
“After making his domestic debut in both the Ford Trophy and Plunket Shield last summer, it’s a great acknowledgement of Angus’ hard work and commitment to his development.
“Angus has impressed with club cricket and Auckland A performances and has thoroughly earned his call-up to receive his first domestic contract,” says Bassett-Graham.
Both ACES and HEARTS contract lists are now complete for the 2024/25 season. The full domestic schedule is due to be announced in the coming weeks.
