Waitakere Cricket Club is a community based sports club in west Auckland with the mission of providing enjoyable social and competitive cricket to the local community.

Situated in the heart of West Auckland at Te Atatu Peninsula, WCC has much to offer both senior and junior players. With committed and knowledgeable coaches, a junior skills’ development programme, newly refurbished practice nets and a great club room with an on-site catering team, mean that WCC is a progressive as well as sociable and welcoming club.

We can cater to players with a broad range of interests and abilities, from those who want to play competitively in our Premier grades to those who simply enjoy a game of social cricket.

We are also proud of our long tradition of promoting women’s and girls’ cricket in both senior and junior grades. In addition, our very popular Have a Go & Starter programmes are aimed at getting our very young beginners (school years 0-2) enjoying cricket and developing basic skills.

The club has a very large and growing junior membership, and over recent seasons has worked on programmes to support players, coaches and volunteers through these age groups.To further enhance this programme the club is looking to employ a full-time Development Manager. This role will lead our Youth cricket programme at the club and schools, support our coaching network and develop pathways for players of all levels.


JOB DESCRIPTION

Contract: 8 months seasonal position, August 2024 – March 2025 

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic individual to lead the development and growth of Female Cricket at Waitakere Cricket Club and to be player-coach for our Women’s team. Reporting to the Director of Cricket.  

Duties will include: 

  • Player-Coach for Women’s team* 
  • Women and Girls club development 
  • Girls school and community programmes 
     

*A non-playing coach with strong skills/experience will also be considered for this role. 

 

Key Responsibilities 

Player-Coach 

  • Be available to play and or attend for the women’s team matches for the club and other competitions  
  • Develop a coaching plan and deliver training sessions for the women’s team throughout the playing season 
  • Be responsible for player selection as well as providing development opportunities for female talent from youth teams 
  • Deliver a pre-season training programme for women and girls 

 

Women and Girls Club Development: 

  • Development and delivery of women and girls programmes and initiatives within the club 
  • Support the management of, and provide development for, coaches of female teams  
  • Provide specific coaching and skill development sessions for women and girls  
  • Identify and guide the development of youth girls and provide pathway support, working alongside the Youth Development Manager 
  • Be the voice of female cricket for the club and community 
  • Disseminate information about district cricket programmes and opportunities for females 
  • Promote and raise the profile of female cricket within the Club including through the use of social media 

 

Girls School and community programmes: 

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with West Auckland Schools and local community groups to elevate the profile of cricket to females 
  • Develop and deliver cricket programmes in schools for Year 5-13 girls 
  • Facilitate and assist with the delivery of all-female school and community competitions 
     

Qualifications and experience 

This position requires a high degree of motivation and flexibility in hours of work: 

  • NZ Cricket Level Two (Advanced Development) Coaching qualification (or overseas equivalent) with minimum of two years experience as a qualified coach 
  • Experience of working within a school environment and/or of working within Female cricket highly desirable 
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and communicate effectively with a diverse range of people. 
  • Outstanding ability to manage their own time and commitments.
