A batter with an unmatched amount of power, Bevon Jacobs enjoyed a fantastic break-through season for the ACES in 2024/25. Virtually unheralded, Jacobs returned from Canterbury to take up a position in Auckland's middle order and immediately announced himself with a pair of gritty 70-odds against Wellington in the Plunket Shield.
Realising just how broad Jacobs' batting skills were, the Auckland selectors picked him for every available match in all three formats during 2024/25. His Super Smash innings were typically blockbusting affairs, with towering sixes over mid-on combined with flays through the cover region so domineering that the TV cameras struggled to even pick the ball up.
Somebody overseas was watching and Jacobs' name was a surprise addition to the 2025 IPL draft, with Mumbai Indians picking him up for his base price of 30 lakh ($60,947). How did the young man deal with this distracting level of worldwide attention? He hit his maiden century in the Plunket Shield of course, a well-structured, pressure-absorbing 157 against the Central Stags.
