The first round of Auckland HEARTS contracts has been announced for the 2026/27 season.

Returning is a well-established roster of talented players, ensuring Auckland's enviable depth continues for another season.

There are, however, two new faces in the mix who bring exciting skill sets.

Suburbs New Lynn batter Kat Thomas, originally from Canterbury, has earned her first contract after strong form for Auckland A.

HEARTS Head Coach Donovan Grobbelaar is full of praise for Thomas' development.

"Kat has earned her opportunity through her performances and continued development over several seasons. We're confident she'll add quality, competition and depth to our batting group."

Parnell batter Ella Drumm has also earned a call-up after a strong 2025/26 club season.

"Ella has been a consistent performer in Premier Club cricket. She brings experience, composure and a wise head to the group," says Grobbelaar.

The HEARTS enjoyed a solid 2025/26 campaign despite missing out on silverware. They were beaten finalists in a nail-biting Super Smash final and finished third on the Hallyburton Johnstone Shield table.

The HEARTS boast an enviable pool of talent, including six centrally contracted White Ferns. However, with international fixtures set to clash with domestic matches this season, there will be plenty of opportunities for contracted HEARTS players, says Auckland Cricket General Manager of Performance & Talent Daniel Archer.

"We continue to have great depth in our HEARTS group. Opportunities will present themselves right across the squad this season, with scheduled White Ferns commitments opening the door for those ready to take them," says Archer.

White Ferns stars Maddy Green, Izzy Gaze, Brooke Halliday and Molly Penfold all enjoyed outstanding seasons, but there were plenty of highlights from the wider contracted HEARTS group as well.

Prue Catton scored 478 runs across both formats, while Bella Armstrong established herself as a valuable spin-bowling all-rounder. The best bowling figures — and the only five-wicket haul for the HEARTS — belonged to Josie Penfold, who tore through the mighty Wellington Blaze on her way to figures of 6/30.

The 13th and final HEARTS contract will be announced on 24 August. The 2026/27 domestic fixtures will be announced in due course.
