Auckland’s Super Smash campaign rolls into Finals Day with the HEARTS advancing to Saturday’s Women’s Super Smash Final, where they will meet the Wellington Blaze at 2.10pm on Saturday 31 January.
The HEARTS sealed their place in the decider with a composed, professional performance against the Northern Brave Women, controlling the contest from start to finish. After being sent into the field, Auckland restricted the Brave to 138, with skipper Maddy Green leading from the front with outstanding figures of 4 for 21, well supported by Amie Hucker’s 3 for 28.
Chasing the target, the HEARTS looked assured throughout, building steady partnerships around Prue Catton, who carried her bat for a crucial 56 not out off 57 balls. Her innings anchored the run chase, providing exactly the stability Auckland needed as they calmly worked their way to victory.
The result sets up a Finals Day clash with an experienced and well drilled Blaze outfit, with both sides travelling and in Christchurch for the decider. The HEARTS head into Saturday’s championship match with momentum on their side after back-to-back disciplined performances in pressure situations.
Later in the evening, Auckland’s men’s campaign came to an end, with the ACES falling to the Canterbury Kings in the elimination final.
Attention now turns to Saturday, as the HEARTS prepare for their biggest test of the season against the Blaze, with Super Smash silverware on the line.
Live coverage of the Women’s Super Smash Final begins at 2.10pm on Saturday 31 January.
