Auckland set for Super Smash home doubleheader as ACES and HEARTS look to build momentum

 ACES & HEARTS

Auckland’s Super Smash campaign continues at Eden Park’s Kennards Hire Community Oval on Tuesday 6 January, with a home doubleheader featuring the Auckland ACES against the Volts at 12.40pm, followed by the Auckland HEARTS taking on the Sparks at 4.50pm.

With the tournament moving into a crucial middle phase, both Auckland sides will be eager to turn recent performances into points in front of a home crowd.

The opening match sees the ACES return to action after their most recent fixture, a rematch against the Wellington Firebirds, was washed out without a ball bowled. It marked the second no result of the ACES’ Super Smash season, leaving them keen to finally gain continuity as the men’s competition remains tightly packed through the middle of the table.

Despite the stop start nature of their campaign so far, the ACES have shown promise with bat and ball and will be looking to use familiar home conditions to reassert themselves against a Volts side also searching for consistency.

The afternoon clash features the HEARTS, who come into the contest with momentum after bouncing back from a loss to the Wellington Blaze to secure a confidence boosting win last week.

That victory was built on a strong collective performance, particularly in the field, before captain Maddy Green led the run chase with a composed and professional 53 from 45 balls. Her innings anchored the HEARTS as they chased down the Blaze’s total of 112, underlining the calm execution and depth that has characterised Auckland’s women this season.

With the Sparks arriving in Auckland, the HEARTS will be aiming to carry that confidence forward as the Super Smash table begins to take shape.

Live coverage of the ACES v Volts match begins at 12.40pm on TVNZ+ and DUKE, followed by the HEARTS v Sparks clash at 4.50pm.
