Auckland’s Super Smash campaign continues on Monday 29 December with another doubleheader, as the HEARTS take on the Blaze at 12.40pm before the ACES face the Firebirds at 4.25pm.
The early match sees the Auckland HEARTS looking to finally get a full game underway after their opening fixture was a no result. Rain shortened the contest against the Northern Brave Women, with just 2.2 overs possible before play was called off, leaving the HEARTS eager for time in the middle against the Blaze. Meanwhile, in the first result of the competition, the Blaze are coming off a win against the Hinds yesterday.
The afternoon match features the Auckland ACES taking on the Firebirds, following a high-scoring no result against the Northern Brave Men. Despite rain intervening, the ACES showcased their batting depth by piling on 201/8, led by Bevon Jacobs’ blistering 55 off just 31 balls.
Jacobs was well supported by Lachie Stackpole in a decisive 59-run partnership, with Stackpole contributing a rapid 46 from 23 deliveries as Auckland set a daunting total before the weather had the final say.
Encouraged by their attacking intent and run-scoring form, the ACES will be looking to build on that performance when they return to the field against the Firebirds in the second match of the day. The Firebirds will be eager to get their campaign back on track after a first up loss to the Stags yesterday.
Fans can look forward to full day of Super Smash cricket on Monday, with the HEARTS and ACES both chasing their first completed results of the season.
Live coverage of the HEARTS v Blaze game begins at 12.40pm on TVNZ+ and Duke, with the ACES v Firebirds clash to follow at 4.25pm.
