Suburbs New Lynn won the toss of the Pearl Dawson Competition and sent Auckland University in to bat first. Caitlin Gurrey top scoring for the hosts with 38 off 29. Jesse Prasad made 32 off 20, Makaylah Templeton made 25 not out off 19 to finish the innings, giving Uni some momentum going into the second innings. Most bowlers picked up a wicket with Divyanshi Chauhan 2/6 off 2 overs being the pick. Chasing 148 to win, Suburbs needed to get off to a strong start to keep the required run rate within reach. The Uni bowlers got off to the better start, conceding just 47 runs and picking up 3 wickets in the first 10 overs. 101 off the last 10 overs was always going to be tough, however, with a set batter in Katriel Thomas (27) it was possible. The Uni bowlers proved to be too strong, Kate Duffield and Jesse Prasad took 2 wickets each, as Suburbs were restricted to 5/117 from their 20 overs. Auckland University won the match and the Pearl Dawson Competition by 30 runs.

North Shore won the toss at the start of an eventful day and elected to bat first. The Parnell bowlers made them regret that decision with early and constant wickets, Yatin Ramesh picking up 5/35 from 9 overs, backed up by each of the bowlers as each bowler chipped in with at least one wicket as North Shore were bowled out for 79.

 

Parnell capitalised on their strong start with their openers putting on 53 for the first wicket, Harry Miller making 25 and Will Ormiston with 52. North Shore picked up wickets through the middle thanks to Krissie Mistry (3/61), Rory Bessell (2/61), and Jordan Gatley (2/44), however Parnell were able to drive home their advantage through Jack Dymond who made a quickfire 55 off 27 batting at 9. James Nelson remained not out on 33 as Parnell declared on 8/242, with a 163 run lead and first innings points secured.

 

With 12 overs still left in the day, there was more damage to be done as Parnell’s opening pair were able to pick up two wickets each from their 4 over spell, Dymond finishing 2/7 and Harry Cullen-Hieatt 2/18. Daniel Middleton remains not out overnight on 29 as Shore finish the day 5/53, still 110 runs behind Parnell’s first innings score.

Auckland University were sent in to bat first in another eventful day of cricket at Colin Maiden Park. Ross Ter Braak got things going for Grafton, picking up a triple wicket maiden in the 9th over of the day, finishing with 3/37. Jono Low made 43 off 40 as he tried to get Uni to a competitive score, until he became one of Fraser Campbell’s 5 wickets, as Campbell to 5/40 from just 9 overs, helping to bowl Uni out for 102.

 

Angus Olliver picked up the top three wickets early as Uni fought their way back into the game. Dylan Taylor (30) and Garth Olliff (28) provided some stability for Grafton, followed by Campbell (37) and Sineth Gunawardane (29), all contributing to Grafton’s first innings win. Olliver would go on to take 5/62 from 14 over, supported by Nikheil Bhana who took 3/14 from 5 overs as Uni bowled Grafton out for 164.

 

Starting the innings 62 runs behind, made the most of their 26 overs left in the day, losing only the one wicket of Nathan Robinson for 34. Joshua Stephan (40*) and Barrington Rowland (37*) will resume Day 2 with Uni 1/112.

 

Suburbs New Lynn vs Takapuna

Takapuna won the toss and elected to bat first against Suburbs New Lynn. The Devereaux brothers picked up the first 3 wickets, Sam with one, and Luke with two as Takapuna were put under early pressure. Ben Beecroft played a counter attacking innings of 76 off 64 as he hit his way out of trouble, trying to change the momentum of the innings. Matt Jones provided some lower order runs, making 44, as Liam Smith (3/26) and Luke Devereaux (3/19) picked up three wickets each helping to bowl Takapuna out for 180.

 

With 25 overs left in the day, Takapuna, through a Sam Collinson 3fer (3/30), were able to end the day with the game in the balance. Suburbs needing 107 for a first innings win with Michael Barry unbeaten on 15, and Takapuna needing 6 wickets with it all to play for.

East Coast Bays won the toss and elected to bat first at Cornwall Park. Openers Ryan Schierhout (38) and Luke Watson (65) got their side off to a good start, batting for the majority of the first session. The Harrison brothers were made to work hard for their runs in the middle order, Brodie making 41 off 94 and Ryan making 42 off 146. The spinners kept the pressure on picking up 5 wickets from their 63 overs bowled on Day 1, Rahman Hekmat taking 3/54 the pick of them. Bays eventually declaring on 9/235.

 

With 6 overs left in the day, Cornwall were able to get through unscathed with 15 runs on the board, starting Day 2 220 runs behind.

Kumeu won the toss and elected to bat first against the visitors, Eden Roskill. Harjot Johal brought early success to Roskill, picking up the first couple of wickets early on his way to 2/39. Tauseef Satti made 30 with wickets falling around him, and Akash Christian top scored with 88 off 80 until he was dismissed by Sher Safi, becoming one of six victims to fall as Safi took 6/66 from 12.4 overs.

 

Chasing 220 to win first innings, Roskill got off to a strong start with both openers contributing, Johal with 31 and Damien van den Berg with the top score so far of 68 off 67. Swayam Desai made a quick fire 33 off 21, with Rajat Choudhary on 53 off 30 and Neil Patel 28 off 28 unbeaten overnight. Roskill finished the day on 5/230 with the first innings points secure as they push for an outright result next week.

Papatoetoe won the toss and sent Waitakere in to bat first at Te Atatu Park. Tejas Patel made 61 opening the batting, however, the headline innings was made by Prasansana Jayamanne with 113. Siddharth Patel contributed with 34, and Aarshin Deshmukh made 56 off 55 batting at 9 until he became Avnit Prasad’s fourth wicket (4/98 off 19 overs). Waitakere finished the day 9/340.

Howick Pakuranga won the toss and sent Ellerslie in to bat first. Adi Ogra contributed more than half his side’s runs with 92 off a whopping 270 balls and was the 9th and final wicket to fall. The spin twins of Harmeet Singh and Selwin Sanjay picked up 3 wickets each, 3/31 and 3/41 respectively as Howick kept them to 182 from 97 overs before Ellerslie declared.

Howick were able to bat out the remaining 4 overs in the day without losing a wicket and begin Day 2 181 runs behind.

Hibiscus Coast won the toss and sent Birkenhead in to bat first. Anuradha Jayampathi (2/28) dismissed both openers early, bringing Dinesh Kharel (38) and Brian Barnard (64) to the crease to steady the ship, James Newman also chipped in with 29 as Birkenhead were bowled out for 183. Aditya Rangwani the main wicket taker with 3/57, Ankit Desai (2/9) and Umesh Ranaraja (2/19) also taking 2 wickets each.

 

With roughly half the day still left to bat, Hibiscus Coast were looking to make the most of the 49 overs remaining, however it’s Birkenhead that may have the slight advantage. Rangwani holds the current top score for Hibiscus with 46, however Ramesh Lakmal will be looking to turn his unbeaten 37 into a big score on Day 2. The two bowlers with the wickets so far are Deelaka Weeraratne (4/21), and Mayur Masand (3/49). Hibiscus Coast currently 7/129, 54 runs behind Birkenhead’s first innings score with it all to play for next week.

Auckland University won the toss and elected to bat first against Suburbs New Lynn. Uni’s openers got their side off to the perfect start, putting on 136 for the first wicket, when Zamera Ikiua was dismissed for 54. That brought Prue Catton to the crease to join Caitlin Gurrey, and the two got to work putting on a mammoth unbeaten 176 for the 2nd wicket. Gurrey going on to make 148 not out off just 116 balls, and Catton unbeaten just short of her hundred on 97* off just 64 balls. Chasing 312, it was always going to be tough going for Suburbs. Gwen Davies top scored with 34, however, single digit scores for the top order around her, thanks to Kate Duffield’s 3/26, meant Suburbs were always chasing the game. Divyanshi Chauhan was not out on 28 and Miah Smith on 14 when the rain came, ending the match early with Suburbs 5/106 from 23 overs. Auckland University won the match by DLS.

Howick Pakuranga won the toss and elected to bat first against Parnell. There were contributions throughout the top and middle order, Josie Penfold top scoring with 61, followed by Radhika Patel with 32, as each of the top 6 made it into double figures. Olivia Anderson (2/28 off 7) and Samantha Brake-Howard (2/46 off 8) took two wickets each as Howick Pakuranga was restricted to 7/192 at the end of their 40 overs. Cate Pedersen anchored the innings, top-scoring with 69, as Anderson (38) and Ella Drumm (33) contributed. The Pedersen-Anderson partnership worth 92 runs and the Pedersen-Drumm partnership worth another 52, between them breaking the back of the chase. Marina Lamplough remained not out on 22 as she saw her side home with 6 wickets and 3.4 overs remaining.

Eve Wolland top scored with 55 off 41, and was involved in two 50+ run partnerships, 59 runs with Emily Handyside (35), 61 runs with Raiha Jeory Reynolds (29), and a 49 run partnership with Jess Smith (24 off 14). Rishika Jaswal also made 29 as North Shore went on to make 232 at the end of their 39 overs. Leah Watton (3/43 from 8), Kaitlyn Halliday (2/45 off 8), and Lily Johnson (2/35 off 5), were the main wicket takers. The headline act from the second innings was Isabella Watson, who took 6/25 from 7 overs, helping to bowl Takapuna out for 58. Rishika Jaswal took 2/11 from 6.3 overs as North Shore won the match by DLS.
