The Auckland HEARTS head to Christchurch for a high-stakes weekend at Hagley Oval, where they’ll take on the Canterbury Magicians in back-to-back Hallyburton Johnstone Shield matches. With the competition heating up, the HEARTS need to win both games to keep their finals hopes alive and book a place in Dunedin next weekend (as well as have some other results go their way).
Captain Maddy Green has led from the front all season, averaging an impressive 63.42 with the bat, and she’ll once again be a key figure as the HEARTS chase two must-win results. Izzy Gaze, Lauren Down, Fran Jonas and Bree Illing have all made valuable contributions throughout the campaign, and the squad will be looking for a full-team effort in Christchurch.
The HEARTS will also have the chance to show their depth after pace bowler Molly Penfold was ruled out due to injury. That opens the door for promising young players Anika Todd and Kate Irwin, who come into the squad for a crucial weekend of cricket.
Canterbury have been a tough opponent in recent seasons, and with both teams eager to finish strong, it promises to be an exciting battle at Hagley Oval. Both matches start at 10:30 am, with free entry for fans in Christchurch. For those watching from home, every ball will be live-streamed on New Zealand Cricket’s YouTube channel.
