Three Up-and-Comers Rewarded as First Round of 2024/25 Auckland HEARTS Contracts Announced

Exciting new talent has been rewarded as the first round of Auckland HEARTS contracts for 2024/25 are announced.

Legspinner Rishika Jaswal and batter Cate Pedersen join the contracts list having both debuted for the Auckland Women last season, while batter Anika Todd joins after rising through Auckland’s Talent Pathway system.

“It’s a great reward to receive your first domestic contract and an exciting time for Cate Pedersen, Rishika Jaswal and Anika Todd,” says Jonny Bassett-Graham, ACA’s Interim Head of Performance & Talent.

“Cate and Rishika look to build upon their opportunities within the HEARTS last season after impressive domestic and A-team performances.”

For 17-year old Jaswal, who is completing her last year of studies at Takapuna Grammar School, the opportunity to play and train with experienced players is invaluable.

“I’m grateful and excited to represent my home team. I look forward to playing alongside talented HEARTS, White Ferns and learn from experienced coaches,” says Jaswal.

Rotorua-born Pedersen, who first represented the Central Hinds before turning out in both formats for the HEARTS last season, has enjoyed her experience in the Auckland environment so far.

“I’m super stoked to receive my first contract with the HEARTS. The HEARTS are an exciting mix of youth and experience. I’m looking forward to this upcoming season and having some fun while I grow my game,” says Pedersen.

Like Jaswal, Anika Todd has risen through Auckland Cricket’s Talent Pathway system, and has already turned out for her country, represented Aotearoa Maori Women at the Women’s T20 Pacific Cup in January.

“Anika is another bright young player coming through the Auckland Cricket pathway. With impressive performances in A cricket and U19s, we are excited to see her join the HEARTS contracted squad," says Bassett-Graham.

Some notable names are missing off the contract list this season, with allrounder Skye Bowden joining Northern Districts and Anna Browning joining Otago ahead of the 2024/25 season.

The 13th and final HEARTS contract will be announced on the 27th of August.
