East Coast Bays 327 (74.3) & 103/1 dec. (7) beat North Shore 165 (57.3) & 167/7 (53) on first innings

Windsor Park

SCORECARD

East Coast Bays dominated their clash with North Shore this weekend and remain at the top of the table with a first innings win but their hunt for an outright was thwarted by a determined Shore lower order. Batting first at Windsor Park, Bays put up 327 thanks to a typically aggressive approach from Brodie Harrison (84 off 67) and Michael Ross (87 off 111) with Cole Briggs (69 off 108) playing a supporting role. Their charge was met with stern resistance from Rory Bessell’s excellent 7/81, easily the pick of the Shore bowlers. In reply, the visitors could only muster 165 with Blair Smith (4/47) and Matthew Ross (3/23) standing out for ECB. Batting again, the Bays openers went on the charge, biffing 103 runs off just 7 overs. Captain Ryan Schierhout smashed a scarcely believable 64 off 21 balls. Chasing a big target, Shore started poorly but soon recovered with some dogged determination, their resistance typified in Daniel Middleton’s 51 off 114 as they reached stumps at 169/7, avoiding an outright defeat.

Onewa Domain

SCORECARD

Takapuna continued their late season form with a thumping win over Eden Roskill at Onewa Domain this weekend. After Eden Roskill won the toss and elected to bat, their decision looked reasonable with a strong start by their openers. But things soon began to unravel as soon as Edward Middleton was brought into the attack. He tore through the middle and lower order to finish with figures of 6/29, combining nicely with Matt Jones’ 4/51 as Eden Roskill were bowled out for 118. Takapuna then put on a blistering 363 off 62.2 thanks to some top order heroics from Mike Sclanders (129* off 93), Tristan van Ingel-Kal (117 off 100) and Quinn Sunde (57 off 62). To their credit, Eden Roskill bounced back to trigger a middle and lower order collapse with Syed Mujtaba (4/145) and Sher Safi (4/45) combining to do the damage. Batting again, Eden Roskill were undone by an astonishing bowling effort from Matt Jones, who completed an 11-wicket match with figures of 7/13 off 9.4 overs. Shore Road Reserve

SCORECARD

Parnell completed a late charge up the Hedley Howarth leaderboard with an excellent 7-wicket win over Suburbs New Lynn this weekend. Suburbs, batting first, made a good start to be set at 88/1 before Ollie Pringle got his tail up. Pringle tore through the top and middle order on his way to figures of 6/10 off 11.2 overs as Suburbs fell for 139. Parnell’s middle order then got going with 50s to Harry Miller, Daniel Presland and Dean van Deventer as they made 262. The Suburbs bowlers were typically solid with Malay Patel (4/54) standing out. Batting again, Suburbs struggled in their second dig with no batter making it over 40. The Parnell bowlers were ruthless with wickets shared amongst them. Chasing a small target, Parnell lost three wickets but made it over the line to complete an outright victory. Colin Maiden Park

SCORECARD

Auckland University completed a first innings win this weekend but remain in the top-of-the-table logjam with ECB and Parnell with just one round yet to play. Electing to bowl first against Cornwall, Uni’s excellent new-ball pair of Nick Stobart and Angus Olliver made regular inroads and Cornwall were bowled out for 170 with Six Dixit (50) the only batsman to reach a half century. In reply, AUCC’s star batters Barrington Rowland (64) and Oyishik Chakraborty (79) built a lead and they declared, sportingly, on 222/7 after securing first innings points. Their push for an outright was stopped in its tracks when the Cornwall batters were able to blunt the Uni bowlers in their second dig, reaching 108/3 before the close of play. Next week’s match shapes us as an important one with Uni taking on a fired up East Coast Bays side at Windsor Park! With only 7 points separating them, this will be a cracker of a match.

Howick Pakuranga 188/2 dec. (42.1) beat Grafton 183 (81.4) & 174/7 (65) on first innings

Victoria Park

SCORECARD

The two leading teams of Tom Hellaby met this weekend in a heavyweight clash at Victoria Park. In the end, it was Howick Pakuranga who got the better of Grafton and now sit just four points behind them on the table. Grafton elected to bowl first and made a good fist of proceedings with their openers dialing in. But regular breakthroughs to the Howick Pak bowlers kept them pegged back and they eventually folded for a languid 183 off 81.4 overs. Azharudin Lambat (4/23) ended with the best figures with his lower order wickets with the other wickets shared around. It was the Liam Winn show for Howick Pak’s reply as the opener reached a magnificent century from 129 balls. Lachie Stackpole provided some aggressive support with 53 not out off 50 balls. They then declared to seek an outright win but Grafton’s lower order rallied after a tough start to see them through to 174/7 by stumps, keeping their lead at the top of the table. Garth Olliff’s 65* at number seven was their highlight. Next week’s match will be fascinating with Grafton taking on the in-form Hibiscus Coast while Howick Pakuranga go up against Waitakere. Let’s wait and see who comes out on top!

Huapai Domain

SCORECARD

Out at Huapai Domain the home side got the better of their clash with Papatoetoe with both teams putting on remarkably similar innings. Bowling first, Kumeu found it tough to get through Papatoetoe’s top order, who played watchfully. Eventually Harmanpreet Singh began to make regular breakthroughs and they were able to wrap up the Papatoetoe innings for 252 in the 77th over. Prabjyot Rehal was the pick of the batters, as he has often been this season, with 75 off 125 while Singh ended with figures of 4/49. Batting first, Coast reached 375/8 with Lakmal hitting the first double ton of the comp on his way to an unbeaten 207 off 277 balls. In reply Waitakere had very few answers to opening bowler Tony Treadaway who helped himself to a five-for with 5/23. Lakmal even chipped in with a miserly 1/2 off 6 overs! Following on, Waitakere once again struggled as Umesh Ranaraja in particular found a way through their defenses. But the home side’s lower order rallied to stem the fall of wickets and thanks to Navan Lombard’s 37* they managed to survive the outright defeat.

Birkenhead War Memorial Park

SCORECARD

In a match similar to that at Huapai, an even display of batting and bowling between Birkenhead and Ellerslie at Birkenhead War Memorial Park led to a first innings win to the home side. He received good support from Mayur Masand in particular and was the last man out as Birkenhead made 282. Ellerslie’s innings revolved around a century of their own as Dinesh Kharel compiled 104. Her 4/10 broke the back of the Suburbs and further support from Emily Watton and Mya Kingi combined to shoot ‘burbs out for 71. At Melville Park, a confidence-boosting batting display by Kumeu/North Shore was quickly overcome by a dominant partnership between Parnell’s openers. Batting their 40 overs for the first time this season, Kumeu/Shore reached 137/9 with Rishika Jaswal (32) anchoring the innings with good contributions from the openers and Jess Smith (22). Renée Macmillan was the pick of the Parnell bowlers with 4/13 off her 8 overs.
