Cornwall won the toss and elected to bowl first against Auckland University. It was the mid to lower order who contributed the majority of the runs, with the two top run scorers in Nikheil Bhana (44) and Jeet Patel (40*) coming in at numbers 9 and 10. The 10 wickets were shared between three bowlers, Rahman Hekmat taking 4, Samrath Singh and Liam Wheeler picking up 3 each as Uni were bowled out for 205.

 

Cornwall has made a strong start to their chase, ending the day on 3/157, just 48 runs behind. Priyam Mistry is unbeaten on 57 and is currently the top scorer, followed by Cole Hughes, who made 49 before being dismissed by Bhana.

North Shore won the toss and elected to bowl first in what would turn out to be a good day to be a bowler. East Coast Bays were bowled out for 121 in their first innings, thanks to a 46 by Michael Ross and 28 from Campbell Knowles. Krissie Mistry and Rory Bessell led the way for the Shore bowlers by picking up 3 wickets each.

North Shore made a strong start to the chase, with the openers putting on 34 for the first wicket. Matthew Ross made the initial breakthrough, his first of three, as he finished with 3/16 off 7 overs. Ronnie Hira top scored on his comeback to Premier Cricket with a run-a-ball 26 until he fell to Blair Smith. Dion Laban-Jeffries was the difference in the teams as he broke the game open with 6/41 from his 9.4 over spell. Shore were bowled out for 110, falling 11 runs behind Bay’s first innings score.

With first innings points secured, Bays were looking to make the most of their lead in an attempt to push for an outright result. Bays finished the day 0/40 after 9 overs, Ryan Schierhout unbeaten on 26 and Harry Vesty unbeaten on 14. Bays will start Day 2 with a 51 run lead.

Parnell won the toss and elected to bowl first against Suburbs New Lynn. Jack Dymond broke the back of Suburb’s top order as he took the first 4 wickets with just 34 on the board, on his way to picking up another 5-wicket bag (5/34). Michael Barry was the mainstay at the crease, top scoring with 61 until he became one of Aniket Parikh’s 4 wickets (4/41). Suburbs New Lynn were bowled out for 164.

Parnell secured first innings points as their push to win the Hedley Howarth continues. Parikh remains unbeaten on 60*, who, along with Tom Dunlop (28*) saw their side to the first innings win late in the day. Flynn McGregor-Sumpter also made 50 as Parnell finished the day 4/167 with plenty of valuable points available next week as Parnell push to stay at the top of the Hedley Howarth leaderboard.

Grafton won the toss and elected to bowl first against Takapuna. Each of the top 5 from Takapuna made contributions, most notably a 111 off 94 from Michael Sclanders, 71 from Cambell Brighouse, 56 by Quinn Sunde, and Ben Beecroft with 46. Matt Jones finished the innings with 22* off 10, capping off a strong batting display on their home wicket. Anurag Narula was the top wicket-taker with 4/114, Ross Ter Braak (2/50) and Alex Edwards (2/74) taking the remaining 4 wickets between them as Takapuna declared on 8/355.

With 32 overs remaining in the day, Takapuna was the team to make it count by picking up 7 wickets, Matt Jones's 3/9 off 12 overs being the standout. Grafton finished the day 7/70, 285 runs behind Takapuna’s first innings score. Currently sitting just behind Parnell on the ladder, Takapuna will be looking to make Day 2 count as they make a last-minute play to try to snatch the trophy from them.

Ellerslie won the toss and sent the hosts, Kumeu, in to bat first. Ellerslie was able to pick up three early wickets, bringing Tejas Gemlawala (74) and Akash Christian (72) to the crease, making 70s each and, in doing so, setting a base for Kumeu to go large. Sunny Tailor remained unbeaten on 103 from 111, supported by Soliman Sahibzada, who made 50 off 43 in a lower-order partnership, frustrating the visitors. Akshay Sreenivasan was the top wicket-taker with 4/125 from 26 overs, while the opening pair of Akash Ogra (2/86) and Joseph Wilkinson (2/73) picked up two wickets each. Kumeu eventually declared on 8/422 after 83 overs.

Ellerslie was able to survive the last 15 overs unscathed on 58, with Kuvam Manon currently on 31* and Adi Ogra on 21*. Ellerslie, currently 364 runs behind, needs a few big partnerships to get past Kumeu’s first-innings score and take the first-innings points.

Birkenhead won the toss and sent the hosts in to bat first. Prabjyot Rehal carried his bat with an unbeaten 141 as his side was bowled out for 253; Sukhdev Sukh (39) and Herschele Hendricks (30) also made contributions. Mayur Masand did the bulk of the damage for Birkenhead, taking 6/79 from 19 overs.

Birkenhead have made a strong start to their batting innings, finishing the day 3/149 after 32 overs. Dinesh Kharel is currently unbeaten on 75, and Parikshith Narsimhan made 44 before being dismissed, currently the top two contributors with the bat. Birkenhead will start Day 2 104 runs behind with first innings points the first target for both sides.

Howick Pakuranga won the toss and elected to bat first in the top-of-the-table clash against Eden Roskill. Both sides are able to win the Tom Hellaby Competition and gain promotion into the Majors, so there was plenty to play for. Sher Safi made the first move, picking up the first two wickets on his way to 3/37. Adam Jones and Josh McGregor steadied the ship until Jones was dismissed for 39. McGregor was then joined by David Winn who made 41 until he became Daman Bhatti’s first victim. There was little other support for McGregor who did the bulk of the scoring, being the last man dismissed for 180 off 189. Rajat Choudhary did some lower order damage on his was to 3/88, helping to dismiss Howick out for 303.

Roskill has made a strong start to the chase, remaining unbeaten on 49 at the end of the day with both openers, Swayam Desai and Syed Mujtaba, on 23. Roskill will be looking to score quickly and go large, needing an outright result and as many bonus points as possible to try to steal Tom Hellaby from Howick, who is currently in the stronger position on the ladder going into Day 2.

Hibiscus Coast won the toss and elected to bat first against Waitakere. Ansh Patel top scored while batting at 10, dismissed for 49 from 41, while Umesh Ranaraja and Malindu Samarasingha made 33 each. Each of the bowlers used for Waitakere picked up a wicket, with Robert Evans taking 3/41, while Prarabdh Rawat (2/52) and Rushil Chavda (2/17) picked up two wickets each. Hibiscus Coast were bowled out for 191.

With still plenty of time left in the day, Waitakere set about trying to chase down Hibiscus’s first innings score. Prasansana Jayamanne top scored with 41, with numbers 10 and 11 in Robert Evans and Prarabdh Rawat with the next top scores of 19* and 16, respectively.  Each of the Hibiscus bowlers took a wicket, with Aditya Rangwani (2/22), Ankit Desai (2/10) and Umesh Ranaraja (2/11), taking two wickets each. Waitakere were bowled out right at the end of the day for 119. Hibiscus won the first innings and will start Day 2 with the start of their 2nd batting innings.

North Shore won the toss and elected to bat first against Cornwall. Shore’s openers put on the highest partnership of the innings with 20 before Tash Wakelin was dismissed for 17. It all went Cornwall’s way from there, with Clare Mains (4/20) and Bella Armstrong (4/7 off 6 overs) running through Shore’s batting order. Shore was bowled out for 67. North Shore were unable to strike early, with Cornwall’s openers breaking the back of the chase with a 44-run partnership. Annie Ewart remained not out on 27 and saw her side home to victory, chasing the 68 required in 13.2 overs and with 9 wickets remaining.

Auckland University won the toss and sent Howick Pakuranga in to bat first. Radhika Patel was the shining light for Howick, opening the batting and top scoring with 53. It was a shared effort with the ball for University as three bowlers picked up two wickets each, Nensi Patel (2/16), Kate Duffield (2/17) and Emily Stanton (2/18) as well as a wicket a piece for Jesse Prasad and Eli McKenna helping to bowl Howick out for 104. Howick bowlers fought to keep them in the game, however, it wasn’t enough as Auckland Uni were able to chase the score down thanks to Caitlin Gurrey’s 38. Uni winning by 6 wickets.

 

Takapuna vs Suburbs New Lynn

Suburbs New Lynn won as a result of Takapuna forfeiting the match.
