Student Coach Development Programme
Helping students coach students
The project aims to increase the quality and quantity of secondary school coaches by targeting senior school students as coaches.
The idea behind the Student Coach Development Programme is - recruiting, training and providing support to a pool of approximately 100 Year 11 & Year 12 students each year who will then coach at a junior level in their secondary schools, delivering over 4,500 coaching hours throughout the season. The specifics of the program are:
- 100 Year 11 students trained as Coaching a Cricket Team (CACT) coaches. - 40 Year 12 students trained as Level One coaches, through a scholarship programme.
The CACT course is a pre-requisite to completing a Level One qualification. Thus by training 100 Year 11 students as CACT coaches in Year 1 of the program, they will be the coaches who are targeted for the Level One intake in Year 2. The selection of Level 1 coaches will be done through a scholarship process in which they apply for with recommendation from the TiC in February 2011.
