Day Six - Finals Day
Final
Hutt District 120 (D Cudby 42, M Kain 4/8) lost to Lancaster Park Woolston 121/3 (K Ambler 60*) by seven wickets.
Lancaster Park Woolston comprehensively defeated Hutt District in the final of the Southern Trust National Cricket Club Championship. The Canterbury champions have been the dominant team for the duration of the competition, and they carried this form into the final. After winning the toss and electing to field, Lancaster Park Woolston bowled Hutt District out for 120. Martin Kain was again the pick of the bowlers with an impressive 4/8 from his 10 overs. In reply, Keryn Ambler was undefeated on 60 as Lancaster Park Woolston cantered to their target without much hassle.
Scorecard
Playoff for 3rd & 4th
Albion 210 (PJ Cairns 76, B Khamal 3/43) lost to Howick Pakuranga 213/5 (M Davis 56*, R Fuard 51, D Grobbelaar 40*, L Vivian 38) by five wickets.
Both teams would have been disappointed with their losses yesterday (and subsequently missing out on the final) however they played out a competitive match for 3rd and 4th. Albion won the toss and elected to bat and found themselves in trouble early. PJ Cairns steadied the ship with 76, however Brendan Khamal (3/43) cleaned out the tail and Albion was dismissed for 210. Reza Fuard again ensured a good start for Howick Pakuranga with 51, but his dismissal brought about a mini-collapse. Michael Davis (56*) and Donovan Grobbelaar (40*) showed great discipline though and their unbroken 6th wicket partnership of 83 sealed victory and third place for Howick Pakuranga.

Playoff for 5th & 6th
Element IMF Cadets 104 (L Howell 33, S Findlay 5/45, J Kuru 4/58) lost to Napier Tech Old Boys 105/3 (S Findlay 40*) by seven wickets.
Element IMF Cadets were yesterday on the brink of reaching the final and a chance of first place, but after today's loss will instead have to settle for last. After winning the toss and electing to bat, Cadets were torn apart by the Napier Tech Old Boys opening bowlers. Jeremy Kuru and Scott Findlay bowled unchanged for 17.4 overs, with Kuru taking 4/58 and Findlay 5/45. Findlay then scored an unbeaten 40 off only 25 balls to guide his team to victory after they had been in a little trouble at 3/43. This result sees Napier Tech Old Boys finish 5th and Element IMF Cadets finish in 6th and last.
Scorecard
And so that brings to end the 2009 edition of the Southern Trust National Club Championships. Lancaster Park Woolston has dominated the competition throughout and is a deserved winner, especially given the fact they remained unbeaten. Cornwall Park has seen some fantastic cricket over the last six days and it has been a thoroughly enjoyable experience for those involved. There has been a good blend of youth and experience - from the likes of rising stars Trent Boult, Fraser Colson, Jeremy Kuru, Nick Beard, Ryan McCone and Greg Morgan to first class veterans such as Llorne Howell and Craig Findlay.
There have been a number of individual highlights; Luke Vivian's 75 off 58 balls on day one, Ryan McCone's calm and composed 52* to see his team over the line on day four, and Andrew Hadley's breathtaking catch which has been described by those watching as the best they have ever seen - just to name a few. Day Five
All matches reduced to 42 overs
Howick Pakuranga 143/7 (R Fuard 49, M Kain 4/22) lost to Lancaster Park Woolston 144/6 (S Allen 62, A Duncan 41, G Morgan 3/31) by four wickets.
Lancaster Park ensured they would remain unbeaten through the round robin with a four wicket victory over Howick Pakuranga. Howick Pakuranga was sent in to bat and the debonair style of opening batsman Reza Fuard made sure a good start ensued. However, Fuard's dismissal for 49 triggered a collapse (Howick Pakuranga lost five wickets for ten runs) and in the end they were only able to muster 143/7 from their 42 overs. Lancaster Park Woolston lost a few early wickets, but a century stand between Simon Allen (62) and Andrew Duncan (41) steadied the ship and provided the foundation for their side's victory.
Scorecard
Napier Tech Old Boys 235/8 (M Calkin 62, S Findlay 43, J Kuru 37*, M Freer 36, N Cape 3/38) defeated Albion 205 (J Glenn 59, B Meehan 3/39, J Kuru 3/43) by 30 runs.
Albion entered this game knowing that victory would give them a good chance of a berth in the final. However, it was the previously winless Napier tech Old Boys that made all the play and in the process shattered Albion's chances. The Central Districts champions elected to bat, and although they were in trouble early, some good aggressive batting from the middle and lower order boosted their total to 235/8. Marc Calkin top scored with a well compiled 62. In reply, Albion opener Jamie Glenn continued his good form with the bat with a half century but unfortunately for Albion he received no support, and they were dismissed for 205. Bronson Meehan and Jeremy Kuru took three wickets each.
Scorecard
Element IMF Cadets 256 (J Boult 83, M Drake 47, J Evemy 39, A Turner 3/46) lost to Hutt District 259/8 (D Cudby 65, A Nightingale 64*) by two wickets.
At the start of the day, both these teams had a mathematical chance at making the final, but were reliant on other results going their way. Element IMF Cadets won the toss and elected to bat, and opener Jono Boult scored a stylish 83 in setting up his team's total of 256. Hutt District needed to score quickly from the start, and Darren Cudby's 65 ensured this happened. However his departure sparked a collapse, and in the end it was Andrew Nightingale who saw his team home in the final over with a brilliant 64 not out from only 45 balls. The victory lifted Hutt District to the same points as Albion and Howick Pakuranga, but their superior net run rate means they will face Lancaster Park Woolston in the final.

Day Four
All games reduced to 45 overs
Hutt District 176/6 (J Colson 71, A Nightingale 34*) lost to Howick Pakuranga 180/6 (M Davis 49*, W McKenzie 41) by four wickets.
Howick Pakuranga recovered from their previous game to post a victory over Hutt District and keep their hopes of a finals berth alive. After winning the toss, Hutt District elected to bat and scored 176/6 from their 45 overs. With the ball swinging early and then spinning later on, this was a competitive total. James Colson was the star for Hutt District with 71. The second innings was a see-saw affair with momentum shifting on numerous occasions. Michael Davis (49*) and Wayne McKenzie (41) put on 86 runs for the fifth wicket, and this proved to be crucial. The match came down to the final over, but by this stage Davis was well and truly set and saw his team home.
Scorecard
Albion 278/8 (PJ Cairns 80, N King 69, M Craig 41, T Boult 3/51) defeated Element IMF Cadets 248 (B Christensen 46, J Evemy 45, T Boult 36, P Wadsworth 34) by 30 runs.
A powerful batting display was the catalyst for an Albion win which lifted them to second on the table. Element IMF Cadets won the toss and elected to field first, but unfortunately for them they did not make the necessary early inroads. PJ Cairns was the star for Albion scoring 80, and he shared in two big partnerships of 123 with Nathan King (69) and 80 with Mark Craig (41) which lifted Albion to 278/8. Element IMF Cadets started off very well with the opening partnership putting on 72. However, although many of the batsmen made starts, none were able to kick on to a big total which in the end proved costly, as Albion won by 30 runs.
Scorecard
Napier Tech Old Boys 134 (G Diack 30, A Ellis 3/9, M Kain 3/10) lost to Lancaster Park Woolston 135/8 (R McCone 52*, S Findlay 3/25) by two wickets.
Lancaster Park Woolston kept their unbeaten record with a narrow win over Napier Tech Old Boys. In a low scoring game, it was three of the Canterbury champion's first class players who stood up and delivered. After being asked to bowl by Napier Tech Old Boys, it was Andrew Ellis (3/9) and Martin Kain (3/10) who did the bulk of the damage in bowling their opponents out for 134. As well as claiming three wickets each, the pair was very economical in conceding only 19 runs from the 16.5 overs bowled between them. Ryan McCone then played a crucial knock to guide his team home. McCone came to the crease at 5/60, and saw three partners dismissed at the other end before the score reached a hundred. However, McCone finished unbeaten on 52 as Lancaster Park Woolston reached their target with eight balls to spare.

Day Three
Napier Tech Old Boys (Central Districts) 93/3 (A McGarva 53*) v Element IMF Cadets (Northern Districts) - match abandoned.
Scorecard
Lancaster Park Woolston (Canterbury) 48/4 v Hutt District (Wellington) - match abandoned.

Albion (Otago) 146/3 (PJ Cairns 59*, J Glenn 34, N King 30) v Howick Pakuranga (Auckland) - match abandoned.
Scorecard
Day Two
(49 over game) Lancaster Park Woolston (Canterbury) 224/7 (A Ellis 93, S Allen 41) defeated Albion (Otago) 172/9 (target 217 from 44 overs) (J Glenn 74, M Kain 3/20) by 52 runs.
Lancaster Park Woolston emerged in first place after round two thanks to a 52 run win over Albion. The Cantabrians won the toss and elected to bat, and would have been satisfied with their total of 224/7 especially given the low scoring encounter on the same pitch the previous day. Andrew Ellis starred with the bat, scoring 93 and sharing in a 79 run partnership for the third wicket with Simon Allen (41). Rain interruptions hampered Albion's progress in their innings, and the target of 217 from 44 overs proved to be too much. Martin Kain performed superbly with the ball, taking the first three wickets to fall and finishing with 3/20 from his 10 overs.
Scorecard
(47 over game) Howick Pakuranga (Auckland) 127 (J Christensen 3/24) lost to Element IMF Cadets (Northern Districts) 91/5 (target 90 from 33 overs) (J Eveny 31) by five wickets.
A complete reversal of fortunes took place in this rain affected match. Element IMF Cadets won the toss and elected to bowl, in what was a vote of confidence to their attack which was carted around the park the previous day. However, against a Howick Pakuranga team confident after a 74 run victory first up, the Cadets' bowlers stepped it up. Josh Christensen's 3/24 ripped the top of Howick Pakuranga's innings, and they were never able to recover. The fact that extras were the top score in their 127 illustrates this. A rain delay altered Element IMF Cadets' target to 90 from 33 overs, which they reached after 18 with five wickets in hand.
Scorecard
Hutt District (Wellington) 274 (J Colson 53, D Cudby 52, A Nightingale 45, S Findlay 4/44, M Calkin 4/68) defeated Napier Tech Old Boys (Central Districts) 214 (target 263 from 45 overs) (M Calkin 41, B Meehan 41, R Turner 31, D Twigg 3/32, A Hadley 3/47) by 49 runs.
Hutt District picked up their first win of the competition thanks to an outstanding display of batting and some disciplined bowling. After winning the toss and deciding to bat first, Hutt District scored 274 from their 50 overs, with James Colson and Darren Cudby both scoring half centuries. Scott Findlay and Marc Calkin both snared four wickets, but the Napier Tech Old Boys attack was unable to sufficiently stifle Hutt District. Needing 263 from 45 overs, Napier Tech Old Boys needed to score quickly, but unfortunately for them none of their batsmen managed to get away. There were a number of starts, but David Twigg and Andrew Hadley took three wickets each to consign Napier Tech Old Boys to their second defeat.
Scorecard
Day One
Albion (Otago) 156 (O Newton 42, C Souter 30*, T Robertson 4/24) defeated Hutt District (Wellington) 137 (J Colson 32*, N Beard 4/17, J Medlin 3/26) by 19 runs.
Hutt District won the toss and decided to bowl, a decision they would have been well pleased with come the end of the innings. Tommy Robertson's 4/24 helped to dismiss Albion for 156 - a score which Albion only reached thanks to a 55 run partnership for the 9th wicket between Ollie Newton and Craig Souter. However, the Hutt District batsmen found the going just as tough as their counterparts and were all out for 137. Nick Beard (4/17) and Jeremy Medlin (3/26) were the pick of the bowlers.
Scorecard
Howick Pakuranga (Auckland) 251 (L Vivian 75, J Newth 36, A de Boorder 32, W McKenzie 31, S Smidt 3/48, M Calkin 3/58) defeated Napier Tech Old Boys (Central Districts) 177 (A McGarva 42, K Turner 41, G Hayne 4/21) by 74 runs.
Howick Pakuranga made the best possible start in their bid to become the third team from Auckland in a row to win the national title. After being sent in, the local champions were dismissed from the last ball of the innings for 251. Luke Vivian top scored with 75 off 58 balls, an innings which included 9 fours and 2 sixes. In reply, an 82 run partnership for the fifth wicket between Alex McGarva and Ken Turner kept Napier Tech Old Boys in the hunt, but four wickets from Gareth Hayne inspired a collapse and ensured a 74 run victory to Howick Pakuranga.
Scorecard
Element IMF Cadets (Northern Districts) 206 (J Eveny 44, B Christensen 41, L Howell 40, J Boult 30, J Baxendale 4/58, A Ellis 3/13) lost to Lancaster Park Woolston (Canterbury) 207/5 (A Duncan 55*, A Ellis 48, S Allen 37) by five wickets.
A fantastic all round performance from Andrew Ellis guided Lancaster Park Woolston to a comprehensive victory against Element IMF Cadets. Ellis took three wickets to complement four from James Baxendale; although there were a number of starts in Element IMF Cadets' innings, the bowlers never allowed them to get away and in fact took the last seven wickets for 25 runs. In reply, Ellis scored 48 at the top of the order to set Lancaster Park Woolston on their way to victory. Andrew Duncan then hit an unbeaten 55 to steer his team to victory with almost 18 overs to spare.
