NZC Cup and Shield

Year 7 and 8 School's competition

New Zealand Cricket is delighted to announce the continuation of the Intermediate Cup (National Primary School Boys' competition) and the Intermediate Shield (National Primary School Girls' competition) in 2013 and we now extend an invitation to your school to participate.

The NZC Cup and Shield are the national primary school boys and girls competitions. It provides an opportunity for them to participate in a limited overs 11-a-side hard-ball competition and, in particular, it gives schools whose normal sports programmes follow different paths, the opportunity of playing against one another at cricket. While entry advice has been e-mailed to full primary and intermediate schools, all students up to and including those in Year 8 are eligible to compete.

With the competitions commencing early in the new school year, it is essential that entries be completed as soon as possible - the deadline is 22nd November, 2012 - and returned to me at Auckland Cricket. Once entries have been received and processed, they will then be handed to the respective zone convenors, who will prepare a draw and liaise further with you.

Why not give it a go? It can be a lot of fun and remember entry is free.

We welcome your involvement.

The 2012 Campaign

The NZ Shield competition for girls ran through the first term of 2012 with ANI winning the final against St Cuthberts College. They then played for the right to go to the National Competition finals against the Northern Districts Champions, Manurewa Intermediate. It was a good game for ANI who after losing the toss were put into bat, scoring 90 for 5 with their captain Bella Armstrong unbeaten on 33*. Manurewa in their chase lost early wickets and were forced to consolidate ending on 60/5. Again captain fantastic Bella Armstrong had the best figures with 3 for 9 after her 4 overs. Congratulations and Best of luck to ANI at Nationals.

The NZ Cup competition for boys also ran through term one but the semis and finals were played in term 4 of this year. In the Auckland final Rosmini bet Sacred Heart in a dominant performance which stood them in good stead for the game against the ND champs, Tauranga Intermediate. Rosmini won the toss and chose to bowl first. They bowled well in the first 12 overs restricting Tauranga to 39 for 2 but the last 8 overs were another story entirely, batsmen Oliver Norrys scoring a quick fire 28. Along with Taylor Kite who scored 29* pushed the team total up to 109/5 after 20 overs. Captain Giles Laville was the pick of the bowlers for Rosmini with his 4 overs going for 10 for 2. Rosmini in their chase started well setting the platform at 51 after the first 10 overs. The consistent loss of wickets and no support for their number four batsman Tom Barham meant they could only manage 95/8 after 20 overs. Congratulations and Best of luck to Tauranga intermediate at the Nationals.
