Hearts end on a winning note

Sakia Bullen picked up 2/21

The Auckland Hearts managed to finish their campaign with a win over the Northern Spirit in the only game completed of the scheduled three over the weekend.

The Hearts posted a respectable 136 off their 20 overs and then bowled tightly to restrict the Spirit to just 111/6 off their allotted overs.

It was a horror start for the Hearts as they lost Kelly Brown off just the second ball of the innings to a run out.

Holly Huddleston continued on strongly though as she made her way to a hard hit 26 off just 23 balls, including five boundaries.

That momentum was carried on by skipper Victoria Lind with a whirlwind 21 off just 10 balls, and then Maddie Green (23) and Sam Curtis (31).

The Hearts bowlers then went about restricting the Spirit line-up, aided by the run-out of key player Nicola Browne for just 2.

Early wickets told on the Spirit and despite an unbroken last wicket partnership of 44 they were well short of challenging the target.

The other two scheduled games on the weekend were both rained out without a ball being bowled meaning the Hearts finish in fifth place in both one and twenty20 competitions.
