Plunket Shield teams recognise mine victims

Thursday, 25 November 2010

Today all Plunket Shield teams wear black arm bands and held a minute’s silence to recognise those affected by the Pike River Coal Mine disaster.

Today’s play started at 10.30 and the Auckland Aces, Northern Knights, Central Stags, Wellington Firebirds. Canterbury Wizards and Otago Volts observed a minute’s silence at the start of play.

Black arm bands are being worn today by the players and support staff.

CEO of Otago Cricket Ross Dykes said the disaster has affected not only the West Coast, but all of New Zealand. “It is a terrible tragedy. 29 men will never come home,” he said. “We wanted to acknowledge those that have been affected by this tragic event.

“We wanted to show our support for the families and the West Coast communities. All the families and communities are in our thoughts during this difficult time.”

Auckland Cricket would like to thank all our sponsors and partners for their support.
