Hearts player Maddy Green will captain the side

A team of 15-19 year old girls leaves for Australia tomorrow to do battle with state sides from across the Tasman.

Led by Hearts batsman Maddy Green the Auckland Emerging Players side  consists of a range of players who've represented Auckland in either Women's Development or Under 15 sides this season.

Players such as Alex Eastwood, Amy Courtney, Arlene Kelly, Sarah Carnachan, Shannen Elliott and Georgia Guy have both experience from the National Women's Development tournament as well as Premier club cricket in Auckland.

The tour is a chance for the younger players to gain experience at the next level and for the older ones to not only see what international competition is like but also press their claims for a Hearts spot next season.

With a lot of young sportswomen being talented at a variety of sports the tour is also a way of showing the players that sticking with cricket has some reward and of the future opportunities that might be available.

With only a small percentage of the money required for the trip being put up by the Frank Grattan legacy the girls have been very busy since the side was picked last June fundraising to make the trip happen.

The side plays Victoria and New South Wales Under 18 sides in a series of one day and twenty20 games over the course of an intense week of cricket.

The side to travel to Australia is as follows:

Maddie Green (Capt)
Alex Eastwood
Amy Courtney
Arlene Kelly
Nikita Parshotam
Sarah Carnachan
Shannen Elliott
Georgia Guy
Francesca Wilkinson
Leanne Gray
Tori Higgs
